What is Lightning Address

A Lightning Address is a payment method based on the Lightning Network with the following key features:


  • Simple format: Resembles an email address and is easy to remember, e.g. 762532@mixin.id
  • Reusable: Unlike invoices, you don’t need to generate a new address for every payment
  • Widely supported: Compatible with popular Lightning wallets such as Mixin Messenger, Wallet of Satoshi, Phoenix, Speed Wallet, ZEUS, Muun, STRIKE, and more



Lightning Addresses Supported in Mixin Messenger



Mixin Messenger currently supports two types of Lightning Addresses:


  1. Addresses ending with @mixin.id
  • Every Mixin Messenger user automatically has a Lightning Address linked to their Mixin ID
  • Format: Mixin ID + @mixin.id
  • Example: 762532@mixin.id


  1. Addresses ending with @mao.id
  • Every MAO name corresponds to a Lightning Address
  • Format: Name + @mao.id
  • Example: If you own the domain ren.mao, your Lightning Address will be ren@mao.id


FAQ


  • Can I use multiple MAO domains to receive Lightning payments?

Yes. Each MAO domain you own can be used as a valid Lightning Address.
