# What is Lightning Address

A **Lightning Address** is a payment method based on the **Lightning Network** with the following key features:

* **Simple format**: Resembles an email address and is easy to remember, e.g. 762532@mixin.id
* **Reusable**: Unlike invoices, you don’t need to generate a new address for every payment
* **Widely supported**: Compatible with popular Lightning wallets such as Mixin Messenger, Wallet of Satoshi, Phoenix, Speed Wallet, ZEUS, Muun, STRIKE, and more


## **Lightning Addresses Supported in Mixin Messenger**


**Mixin Messenger currently supports two types of Lightning Addresses:**

1. **Addresses ending with @mixin.id**
* Every Mixin Messenger user automatically has a Lightning Address linked to their **Mixin ID**
* Format: **Mixin ID + @mixin.id**
* Example: 762532@mixin.id

2. **Addresses ending with @mao.id**
* Every MAO name corresponds to a Lightning Address
* Format: **Name + @mao.id**
* Example: If you own the domain ren.mao, your Lightning Address will be ren@mao.id

## FAQ

* Can I use multiple MAO domains to receive Lightning payments?
Yes. Each MAO domain you own can be used as a valid Lightning Address.
